Fuki-urushi is a traditional Japanese lacquering technique that is also widely used in historic architecture. The pen rest is first dyed with sumiink before being overlaid with black lacquer to showcase the beauty of both the lacquer and the wood grain.

The simplicity of the matt lacquer complements any desk, while pairing beautifully with our Japanese cherry and aluminium nib holders. Explore your favourite combinations.

Use and Care

The presence of glossy surface speckles are due to a build-up of urushi lacquer in the wood fibres and not to be considered a fault. Imperfections are part of the charm of natural wood and we hope you’ll enjoy the uniqueness.

To prevent distortion and discolouration, avoid soaking in water, sudden temperature changes, extreme heat or prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

Due to the nature of the material and treatment, grain and colour will vary between pieces.

If marked with ink, wipe clean with a soft cloth.
