Hobonichi 2027 Weeks: Akiko Miyakoshi – Once, in Spring

This Weeks book feels just like carrying around an original print artwork by picture book author Akiko Miyakoshi.

The soft spring light, shadows cast by fresh green leaves, and a breeze gently carrying soap bubbles… The overlapping of colours is incredibly soothing, sparking your imagination to wonder what kind of expressions the rabbits are wearing and what they might be talking about.

“This is a spring scene of my eldest daughter playing with a new friend she made when she was around two years old,” Miyakoshi says. “I drew the happiness of her making a friend right after we moved, along with the joy of spring’s arrival.”

The cover has a rough, canvas-like texture and is constructed as a light hardcover with some give to it. The year 2027 is foil-pressed in a sparkling red. The spine is also foil-pressed with “2027” and the words “Unforgettable Moments.” — the creative concept behind the series.

The Hobonichi Techo Weeks comes with a clear, adhesive corner pocket you can stick anywhere you like.

The pages are made of thin and light yet durable Tomoe River paper that holds ink well, providing a smooth writing experience.

Akiko Miyakoshi is a children’s book author, born in Saitama Prefecture in 1982. She currently lives in a town at the base of the mountains in Nagano while creating new works. She debuted in 2009 with the book The Storm (published by BL Publishing) and has won several awards in Japan and internationally for her works The Tea Party in the Woods, The Way Home in the Night, and Little Shrew (published by Kaiseisha). Other books include I Dream of a Journey and The Piano Recital (published by Bronze Publishing), and Tom and Momo (published by Fukuinkan Shoten). Her works are currently published in over 15 languages, and she also contributes illustrations to magazines and other publications.
